Today I got this from Molly at Catholics For Choice. I have been a supporter of Catholics for Choice going back to Frances Kissling, I consider Jon O’Brien a friend, and could not be more stoked at the direction they are going now. You should support the Right to Contraception Act.
From Molly Lesser…
Last week, Congress voted on the Right to Contraception Act; unfortunately, the vote failed.
But it’s not the end of the story for this bill.
I won’t get too wonky about how the vote went, just know that there is a possibility for another vote on the Right to Contraception Act in the future — which is why we can’t let the momentum behind this bill slow down!
Nearly 400 Catholic for Choice advocates emailed their Senators to support the bill before the vote. Now, I’m asking if you can send an updated note to your Senators to thank them for voting for the bill or pressure them to reconsider.
The data shows that this bill would change and save lives. That’s why two Republican Catholics for choice — Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski — voted across party lines to support this bill, putting the common good before partisan ideology.
They aren’t stopping at abortion; they will try to ban your contraception, too.
Thanking members of Congress for their vote is a great way to affirm that they are doing right by their constituents, and sharing your disappointment with a member’s vote reminds them of their duty to the common good.
Thanks for your help,
Molly Lesser, Esq.
